We understand the importance wetlands have on our ecosystems. They provide a valuable habitat for birds, fish, and wildlife. They also are a powerful tool for improving overall water quality by capturing and filtering unwanted nutrients and pollutants.
Natural occurrences such as tornados, hurricanes, fire, and floods seemingly destroy ecosystems, but over time those ecosystems often recover and mature into diverse healthy environments. Without outside interference the processes of recovery are normal and inevitable. Time is usually the only requirement. However, the conditions, both naturally occurring and man-made, that are impacting our environment today do not allow for this spontaneous recovery. To meet these challenges, intentional effort often must be directed toward environmental restoration.
Using patented technology, we are manufacturing new tools in water stewardship. The power behind BioHaven® Floating Islands, EcoMatrix and Submerged BioHaven® products is rather simple; the technology allows microbes to live and thrive on the matrix forming biofilms while breaking down waste and removing nutrients. Above the water line, the matrix provides a strong medium which protects new plant roots allowing them to establish and grow. These plants protect vulnerable shorelines from wave energies and provide a beautiful habitat for local birds and wildlife. Below the water line, the network of hanging roots and matrix provide additional surface area for microbes while also knocking down solids and sediments within the water column. The roots also offer fish and marine life shade and protection from predators.
