Land Restoration
Pre-planted EcoMatrix provides a medium for vegetation to grow along levees and shorelines offering protection from erosion by buffering waves. BioHaven® Floating Islands also buffer wave energies protecting existing marsh from the damage of erosion.
Habitat Enhancement
By offering a riparian zone in the center of a water body away from predators, BioHaven® Floating Islands offer a new form of security cover. Biofilm associated with the island matrix and its concentrated surface area initiates-actually jumpstarts- the food web.
Water Quality
Microbes break down waste and nutrients, while producing a biofilm. This biofilm grows on the matrix of BioHaven® Floating Islands as well as the network of roots hanging below the island. Another smaller fraction of nutrients is taken up by plant roots. This forms a concentrated wetland effect---Nature’s way to clean water.
