Floating Treatment Wetland Systems are low cost water treatment systems that are effective at removing unwanted pollutants in a variety of water bodies. The Floating Treatment Wetlands provide a foundation for vegetation to grow. The foundation is an open and porous media which enables plant roots to spread throughout, ultimately creating an enormous amount of surface area for microbes and bacteria to live. The microbes and bacteria attach to the plant roots, the microscopic root hers of the plants and the fibers of the media, where they secrete a sticky substance called Biofilm. The Biofilm traps total suspended solids (TSS) or causes it to settle to the bottom of the water body. The microbes and bacteria also digest the organic matter and nutrients, including biological oxygen demand (BOD), nitrogen and phosphorus.
