Overview
Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge is the nation’s largest urban national wildlife refuge containing a marsh habitat that is critical to the preservation and integrity of the refuge. BioHaven® Floating Islands were installed with the primary goal of protecting an eroding shoreline from low to moderate wave energies through sedimentation build up and new vegetation growth.
Results
BioHaven® Floating Islands are successfully protecting the shoreline and natural marsh from further erosion by buffering daily waves. In fact, the islands have exceeded expectations with vegetation growth spreading to nearby soil.
