Overview

Eco Matrix with pre-planted matrix strips was installed along a continually eroding levee base. Annual maintenance of the levee was is necessary due to erosion occurring from daily wave energies. The goal of this project was to see if planted vegetation would survive and grow at the water’s edge, thus buffering the levee from further erosion.

Results

Vegetation quickly established and spread, ultimately covering the entire Eco Matrix. After only nine months there were approximately three feet of vegetation at the levee base working as a buffer to protect the levee from daily wave energies.
